OT 322 - Adult I - Hospital-Based OT Practice This course examines OT practice in the acute care setting and includes discussion of the following key concepts: (a) medical stabilization, (b) restoration of function, (c) prevention of physical or cognitive complications or decline, (d) early mobilization, (e) transition and discharge planning, (f) reimbursement systems and funding mechanisms, (g) coding, and (h) documentation. Safety of self and others, including adherence to safety regulations, and monitoring of vital signs (e.g., blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory status, and temperature), will be practiced and reinforced. Client-centeredness will be discussed and highlighted in all aspects of evaluation, intervention, task modification, and healthcare team collaboration. In addition to lecture content, practice and performance skills will be developed, reinforced, and refined during weekly laboratory sessions.
