OT 535 - Advocacy in OT


This course examines the role of the occupational therapist as an ethical professional, decision-maker, advocate, and change agent. Students will closely examine the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) Occupational Therapy Code of Ethics and Standards for Practice, and demonstrate understanding and applicability in ethical decision making when confronted with personal, professional, and organizational conflict. Systems and structures that create federal and state legislation, regulations and policies, and issues of malpractice and liability will be discussed, and implications for OT service delivery and the profession considered. Students will examine organizational and agency leadership (local, national, and international), explore the process of locating and securing grants, and the role of OT in providing service on a contractual basis. OT majors only.
