SW 535 - Foundations of Social Welfare Policies Focuses on the history, philosophy and process of social welfare policy including political and economic influences as well as the evolving role of social work. An analytical approach is used to highlight the forces that facilitate or inhibit changes in social policies. The course establishes the connection between social welfare policy and social work practice. Particular emphasis is placed on the social worker’s role in developing and implementing functional policies and programs consistent with the mission of the social work profession.
