SEC 602 - Creating Inclusive Classrooms: Instructional Practices and Supports for All Learners


This course prepares candidates to create inclusive learning environments that meet the diverse academic, behavioral, and communication needs of all students. Grounded in Universal Design for Learning (UDL), candidates will explore how to plan instruction that removes barriers and fosters engagement and access for every learner. Topics include differentiated instruction, positive behavior support plans, and the implementation of Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities in an inclusive setting. Candidates will also learn how to use assistive technology, including augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) tools, to enhance student interaction and independence. The course also emphasizes collaborative practices through co-teaching models, promoting shared responsibility between general and special educators.
