SEC 603 - Supporting Transitions for Students with Disabilities: Planning, Advocacy, and Collaboration


This course explores the transition process for students with disabilities from early intervention through post-secondary pathways, including education, employment, and independent living. Candidates will learn to develop effective transition plans using vocational assessments and student-centered goals aligned within the IEP. Emphasis is placed on building student agency and advocacy, equipping learners to support self-determination and active student participation in planning. Furthermore, the course highlights the role of families and community agencies and examines local, state, and federal supports, including IDEA, Section 504, WIOA, and Vocational Rehabilitation, that assist with coordinated, person-centered transitions.
