SEC 605 - Structured Literacy This course explores structured literacy approaches for students with disabilities, emphasizing explicit, systematic instruction in phonemic awareness, decoding, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and written expression. Candidates will examine how to implement research-based literacy interventions that address the needs of diverse learners, including those with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences. Throughout the course, candidates will integrate Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to design accessible literacy instruction that offers multiple means of representation, engagement, and expression. Strategies will include the use of scaffolding, visual supports, and differentiated materials to promote equitable access and foster deep comprehension.
