SEC 606 - Field Experience & Student Teaching Student Teaching is the culminating experience of the Special Education Certification Program, providing candidates with the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in real-world classroom settings. Under the guidance of experienced mentor teachers and the CCIU course instructor, candidates will engage in 12 weeks of full-time teaching responsibilities, demonstrating proficiency in the PK-12 Special Education Competencies outlined in the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s key domains. Emphasis will be placed on collaboration with families, multidisciplinary teams, and community agencies to enhance student success. Candidates will reflect on their instructional practices, receive feedback, and develop their professional identity as special education teachers.The Student Teaching course will ensure that candidates in the Special Education Certification Program meet the guidelines outlined in the Pennsylvania Code, the Commonwealth’s official publication of rules and regulations, and demonstrate mastery of PDE’s Special Education Grades PK-12 Candidate Competencies.
